The Remaking Of New York: The Immigrant Experience

This course examines immigration and New York City, past, present, and future. Topics covered include the intersection of immigration with economics, including entrepreneurial enterprises, as well as religion, race, gender, and ethnicity. The course examines the social, economic, and political structures of immigrant communities, the impact of successive waves of newcomers on urban culture, and the continuing debates over immigrant incorporation and Americanization. This course is cross listed with SOC 3035, BLS 3035 and HSP 3035. Students may receive credit for ANT 3035, BLS 3035, HSP 3035, or SOC 3035. These courses may not substitute for each other in the F-grade replacement policy.
