Resistance Throughout German History

Catalog description

This course focuses on identifying power structures of German society and survival strategies employed by marginalized groups throughout Germany's history (For example, the Peasants' war of 7524/25, the "witch" hunts, and the May revolution of 1848, German colonization in Africa and China, the Third Reich, post-war East- and West-Germany, and labor immigration from the 1950s to the 1970s). These historical periods will be examined from the perspectives of marginalized groups like Jews, Afro-Germans, homosexuals, women, "guest workers" and recent immigrants and refugees, among others.
