Catalog description

This course examines depictions of trauma in major literary texts. Grounded in trauma theory, students analyze the ways in which traumatic events and the physical and neurological manifestations of trauma are presented through aesthetic language. They will also study the ways in which literature provides critical language to define, interrogate, and delimit trauma, and finally how literature provides narratives of healing and offers ways out of traumatic cycles.
