Introduction to Asian American Literature

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the literary and cultural histories of Asian America. Students will read Asian American texts of different genres and forms from the nineteenth century to the present. We will consider not only the texts' formal techniques and aesthetic strategies but also the historical significance and political meanings of Asian American experience. The course situates Asian Americans texts in transnational and comparative contexts to build connections with other racial and ethnic minority histories and cultures. Ultimately, student will engage with the ongoing, ever-evolving conversations about Asian American identity, legitimacy, and belonging. Satisfies Magis Core: Literature.
