Communicating Identity in the Health Professions

Catalog description

This course introduces students in the health professions to theories and practices from the discipline of Communication Studies. Student will examine how communication, culture, injustice, and power influence clinical encounters and health outcomes. By the end of the course, students will be able to articulate their identity as communicators in health contexts and apply communication strategies that support ethical, patient-centered, and interprofessional care. Satisfies Magis Core: Intersections, Designated Oral communication and Designated Written Communication. P: Contemporary Composition, Critical Issues in Human Inquiry, and Oral Communication. CR: Enrolled in School of Pharmacy and Health Professions; BS degree, IHS majors only.
