In 1941, publisher Henry R. Luce declared the twentieth century to be “The American Century.” This course examines the degree to which Luce’s label squares with a global-historical analysis of the major events, movements, and figures of the century that just passed, where the roots of many of today’s most challenging issues are to be found.
