Comparative Anatomy: Pattern and Function

The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of the diversity of forms and functions in the vertebrate body. By the end of the course, students will have worked with a plethora of different vertebrates and these experiences will provide a framework to handle unfamiliar species that they encounter in veterinary practice (including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish). Rather than dive deeply into a single species as we did in Foundation Course 1, we build upon knowledge of the dog to examine a variety of different species. As a result, we do not go into the same level of detail on all species at all times and will instead focus our efforts on understanding evolutionary relationships and unusual or useful anatomical aspects of each animal that we work with.
