Fashioning Justice: RBG and the Arts

This course invites students to explore the intersections of fashion, law, and justice through the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Cornell alumna, '54, whose influence transcended the courtroom. Through readings, discussion, and hands-on collaboration, students will examine Ginsburg’s life and legacy, consider linkages between fashion or artistic expression and justice, and read segments of legal cases that are pivotal to fashion law. As part of Cornell’s “Learning Where You Live” initiative, the course fosters connection to campus through collaborative work on an exhibit about fashion and justice—featuring Ginsburg’s iconic judicial collars. Each student will also develop a personal creative project inspired by Justice Ginsburg’s legacy, using an artistic medium of their choice.
