Catalog description

Mission Engineering applies systems engineering to ensure engineered and socio-technical systems deliver measurable mission outcomes in contested, uncertain environments. Students learn to translate stakeholder objectives into mission-level measures of effectiveness, develop mission threads and operational scenarios, derive capability requirements, and perform architecture and trade studies across systems-of-systems. Topics include mission modeling, digital engineering and MBSE, resilience and mission assurance, cyber and supply-chain risk, experimentation and simulation, and decision support for acquisition and portfolio prioritization. The course uses case studies from national security, critical infrastructure, and humanitarian response. Teams complete a semester-long mission engineering project producing a mission model, architecture recommendations, and an executive-level briefing.
