Strategic Planning for Public and Nonprofit Organizations

This graduate-level course covers the fundamentals of strategic planning applied to the non-profit and public sectors. We will develop strategic plans and strategy maps for different organizations using stakeholder analysis, SWOT analysis, and risk analysis. The course will also focus on how to tie your strategic plan to a budget plan and how to track outcomes and metrics. We will discuss how strategic plans can form the basis for a fundraising campaign and the imposition of a new tax, fee, or toll. We will explore how to align your governance and leadership plans to effectively carry-out the strategic objectives. We will also discuss how organizations can collaborate or form alliances and joint ventures to achieve strategic goals. There will be a group strategic plan and two, five-page papers.
