This course explores the rich performing and media arts history and practices in Los Angeles, California. Students explore how the city?s cultural institutions have been shaped by the city?s history and evolving identity. Engaged in a multidisciplinary conversation about live and mediated art practices, this course considers how Los Angeles functions as an epicenter for global performing and media industries. Balancing readings from film and media, theater, dance, and performance studies, students learn about the various artist figures, communities, and movements that shape the City of Angels. (PMA-HTC)
