Catalog description

This doctoral seminar examines core phenomena and emerging topics that are the focus of strategic management. It covers corporate scope decisions such as diversification, acquisitions, alliances, and participation in business ecosystems, alongside foundational sources of competitive advantage including economies of scale, learning, and network effects. Other topics include a selection from a variety of topics such as innovation, corporate governance, sustainability, non-market strategy, strategy process research, social evaluation mechanisms like status and reputation, and the role of top management teams as framed by upper echelons and other theories. Students will critically engage with empirical and conceptual research to develop a rich understanding of how strategic phenomena are studied and theorized across multiple levels of analysis.
