Catalog description

MSE 3070 is the initial course in the MSE multi-semester undergraduate design sequence emphasizing entrepreneurial driven materials-enabled design and prototyping through the understanding of early-stage product development complexities. Formed into small teams, students collaboratively ideate multiple innovative products. After the consideration of realistic design constraints, each team chooses one of the products they have ideated to advance towards feasibility. The team iterates the design of this product with particular attention to the suitability for prototyping and the potential market for the product. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for searching intellectual property and analyzing markets are applied; the effectiveness and reliability of these AI tools are also considered.
