Catalog description

Practical laboratory course covering the characterization of materials, analysis of data, and proper presentation of results. Labs are based on various structural, compositional, and property characterization techniques such as: X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy/scanning electron microscopy, spectroscopies, mechanical testing of structural materials, thermal testing of polymers, and electronic testing of functional materials. Comprehensive data analysis including statistical data analysis, curve fitting and experimental uncertainty is emphasized. Includes also the development of technical writing skills.
