Catalog description

An introduction to critical aspects of thermodynamics as applied to materials structure, processing and properties. Introduces concepts of enthalpy and Gibbs free energy for isothermal and isobaric environments, and physical intuition for understanding energy transfer and equilibrium. Introduction to the chemical potential and activities as metrics of thermodynamic equilibrium in complex systems, and as driving forces for chemical reactions and kinetic processes. Develops binary and ternary temperature-phase diagrams and the associated binary invariant reactions.
