Catalog description

The Colloquium on Psychology and Law highlights the remarkable developments in recent years in the applications of psychological theory and psychological science to the law. Understanding how people interpret contracts or decide to consent to treatment; the circumstances in which litigants experience procedural justice; the effectiveness of negotiation techniques; how scientific experts persuade; and how judges and juries are influenced by heuristics and biases in their decision-making -- psychological science addresses all of these issues and more. Guided by guest speakers, students will learn about these and other areas of psychological research in law and will select one or more areas to research and write about.
