This seminar examines cutting-edge issues in criminal law?s administration through a variety of lens. Subtopics considered over the course of the semester include the various theories of punishment; the development and expansion of technologies in criminal law; the privatization of various services within criminal law?s administration; and the rise of mass incarceration. This course offers students the opportunity to consider how the administration of criminal law intersects with issues of racial justice, social justice, politics, and efficiency in the United States. The final grade is based upon a final paper on topics related to issues of punishment in the United States. 3 credit hours.
