Recovering the People's Past

Recovering the People's Past is a public history seminar that focuses on the ways that a diversity of people have shaped the U.S. past and how the creation of museums and broader forms of popular shape our contemporary engagement with the people's past. In addition to relevant historiographical scholarship, course sessions will focus on different modes of analysis including textual, visual, sonic and sensory forms of exploration. Students will leverage the resources of the university archives, the art museum, and digital sources to build these experiences into the seminar. This course will include assignments that invite students to write scholarly reviews of exhibits and develop their own project that engages a particular aspect of U.S. public history. (HIST-HNA)
