Neuroimaging for Behavioral Syndromes

In this course you will learn the fundamentals of magnetic resonance imaging in a psychiatric context and the proper tools to critically ingest primary research literature of this nature. You will learn the mechanisms behind the methods, know the controversies, understand current debates, and survey current research across behavioral syndromes. A key theme of this class will be understanding to what extent biological correlates reflect mechanisms and their dysfunctions, the dysfunctions of the environment, bio/neurodiversity, or reasonable if unwanted consequences of being humans trying to survive. Context outside of the body will be incorporated into our questions and synthesis. Annotations, study visualization, discussion, and midterm and final projects emphasizing your own interests in the class will work towards creating a rigorous and humanized understanding of neuroimaging in behavioral syndromes. Graduate students will be expected to lead discussion in one class for a topic of their choosing. They will identify further readings, report on further context for the studies and findings, following up on papers done after the readings as well as papers cited.
