This course introduces the foundations for best management practices when it comes to recruiting, retaining, and motivating a productive workforce. This course holds a magnifying glass up to the workplace, zooming in on the daily interactions within a firm, between management and employees, from recruiting talent to engaging in layoffs, in setting pay and bonuses to establishing working conditions. By introducing real-life applications, explore theories of the workplace, and bridge modern research from the field at the frontier of personnel economics, we will cover topics such as: how employers choose whom to interview and hire, how bosses can motivate employees, how workers value non-wage amenities such as organizational culture, and how new technologies such as remote work and AI factor into each of these dimensions.
