Catalog description

This course will focus on video storytelling, shooting, and editing techniques for different platforms. Students will learn to recognize and understand the technical, theoretical, and aesthetic aspects of video storytelling through exploration of topics such as understanding the core elements of good video stories and developing narrative structures for different video formats (e.g., social media, digital news, short documentaries). Students will learn about visual theories, how to shoot video using smartphones and digital video equipment, how to interview people on camera, and how to produce and edit impactful video stories. Throughout the semester, we will create three short videos – a minute and a half long news video story, a 60-second social media, and a 3-minute mini documentary.
