Catalog description

Explores the dynamic and generative relationship between words and images. Emphasizes curiosity, experimentation, and creative play as necessary components to self-expression. Using photographs, paintings, illustrations, and other visual materials as starting points for inspiration, students will develop writing projects that grow out of looking closely, noticing details, and following the creative impulse wherever it might lead. Rather than focusing on getting everything “right,” we will explore short writing exercises, creative detours, and collaborative prompts that help writers generate ideas and discover new directions for their work. create poems, short prose pieces, and hybrid works that combine visual and textual elements in new and unexpected ways.
