Catalog description

The second part of a two-semester capstone course sequence that integrates chemical engineering design with a research component. Students will work in teams to apply core chemical engineering principles to solve open-ended problems through the application of cutting-edge research methods, process simulation, systems engineering, and economic analysis, culminating in a comprehensive technical design project. Projects may focus on traditional process design, product design, or on research-driven investigations that require experimental, computational, or hybrid approaches. Some teams will engage company sponsors for key process/product data and design constraints. Students will develop teamwork skills and professional communication skills through weekly presentations of their work culminating in a final presentation to a panel of internal and external appraisers.
