Catalog description

This is the fall semester course in a two-semester capstone design sequence that combines chemical engineering design with a research component. Students apply core chemical engineering principles to solve open-ended problems using advanced research methods, process simulation, systems engineering, and economic analysis, culminating in a comprehensive technical project. Design I introduces essential tools and methodologies for project execution and professional growth, while the spring semester focuses on team-based design, iterative optimization, and professional practice. Projects may focus on traditional process design or research-driven investigations using experimental, computational, or hybrid approaches.
