Physiology of Human Health and Disease

Catalog description

Covers the essential concepts of human physiology needed to understand disease pathogenesis. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge of organ systems needed to design and engineer treatment options. Each organ system will be studied separately with emphasis on homeostatic mechanisms and the key diseases resulting from alterations of these physiological mechanisms.  Key topics include, cell metabolism, endocrine system and diabetes, renal system and renal failure, musculoskeletal system and osteoarthritis, cardiovascular system and cardiac arrhythmia. Course utilizes best pedagogical strategies including group discussions, studio instruction, and interactive guest lectures by clinicians. Recommended prerequisite: BIOMG 1350 or their equivalent, and CHEM 2090 or their equivalent.
