Catalog description

This course focuses on how evolutionary principles can help us better understand health and disease. Concepts from evolutionary biology (e.g., life history theory, coevolution, conflict, constraints and trade-offs) will be applied to key problems in medicine and public health, with case studies on antibiotic resistance, aging, cancer, autoimmune disease, and why pathogenic organisms cause harm to their hosts.
