Drawing as Research

Catalog description

This course focuses on the use of drawing as a way to organize and refine the conceptual and formal considerations central to each student's individual lines of inquiry regardless of his/her primary medium/discipline/field. While looking at the role of drawing in contemporary art as well as its potential as an interdisciplinary practice, we will explore various drawing approaches that can both problematize and clarify the research process. Emphasis is placed on developing strategies to re-present nonvisual and/or immaterial conditions and information. Projects will be explorations of the prompts from assigned texts and will often incorporate collaborative exchanges as a form of action-based critique. (ART-STU)
