Environmental Justice Studio

Catalog description

Environmental Justice Studio is a space for engaged learning and research, giving students an opportunity to join ongoing struggles to seed more equitable environmental futures. Each semester, students learn by doing, partnering with community organizers and creating digital humanities resources of immediate use in contemporary fights for environmental justice. The course is highly collaborative in nature, as is all effective organizing work, and requires bright, creative, justice-minded students eager to learn in a non-traditional classroom environment. Through this work, they will become familiar with the history and theory of environmental justice work in the United States, gain experience with archival and ethnographic research methods, learn how to conduct time-sensitive research responsive to community needs, and produce multimedia resources for a broader civic audience.
