ANSC 2720
Applied Biology and Management of Cats and Dogs
Cornell University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This 1-credit lab course goes with the companion lecture course on the biology and management of cats and dogs. The lab focuses on practical, hands-on activities and real-world examples related to breeding, genetics, health, and basic pet management. Early in the semester, students learn about the dog and cat breeding/show industry through discussions with guest speakers. Students then work with breed characteristics and DNA profile reports and discuss what these reports can and cannot tell us. One lab includes generating AI dog images from a DNA profile and using the activity to think about how genetic information can be communicated and misunderstood.
