MATERNAL-NEWBORN NURSING

Catalog description

Maternal-Newborn Nursing is a didactic and clinical course designed to assist the learner to develop the knowledge and expertise necessary to meet the needs of the childbearing family and health care of women through the lifespan. Physiological, psychological, sociological, developmental, spiritual, 90 Copiah-LinCoLn Community CoLLege ethnic-cultural, and socioeconomic factors involved in maternal-newborn and women’s health nurs- ing are emphasized. The student is required to utilize critical thinking skills when applying the nurs- ing process to the prioritzation of care for members of the childbearing family, and women from adolescence to old age. The course is also designed to enhance professional knowledge and under - standing of the functions and roles of the associate degree nurse within evidence-based nursing prac- tice in the maternal-newborn and women’s health settings including interdisciplinary collaboration. Selected clinical experiences are provided within the environment of hospital based and community settings. Credit, six semester hours. (Prerequisites: NUR 1113, NUR 1119, NUR 1219, and PSY/EPY 2533.
