(Also offered as ARIS 1170 .) An exploration of feminist texts, literary texts, and popular fiction. Topics may include: the role of women’s writing from the nineteenth century to the present in public life; women’s writing in social and political movements such as the Arab Spring; the intersectionality of class, race, gender, and nation in Arabic literature; and the unique challenges faced by Arab women writers. Taught in English.
