This course takes a closer look at the world of electoral politics, including the importance of representation and participation in all aspects of democracy to advance social, economic, racial, and environmental justice goals. Students will examine how election laws and policies, democratic norms, political parties, and access to information work to oppress or promote political participation as well as the important connection between healthy democracies and community outcomes. students are required to attend the nonpartisan Campaign School for Social Workers sponsored by the Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work, a two-day workshop on leadership and campaigns.
