Advanced course on fuel cells as an alternative energy conversion technology. Subjects covered include thermodynamics and electrochemistry of fuel cells, operating principles, types of fuel cells, overview of intermediate/high temperature fuel cells, polymer electrolyte fuel cells and alkaline fuel cells. Discussion of advanced uses of fuel cells for electrochemical separations for process gas purification and carbon sequestration. Fuel options for fuel cells including hydrogen is also covered.
