Introduces graduate students to the major theoretical traditions, empirical debates, and methodological approaches in the sociology of law. Law is analyzed not merely as a system of rules but as a social institution embedded in power, culture, inequality, and everyday life. The course draws from classical foundations and cutting-edge sociolegal scholarship to examine how individuals, organizations, and states create, interpret, mobilize, and contest law.
