Key Factors and Multi-Level Influences on Health

Catalog description

This course focuses on applying theoretical frameworks (e.g., Socioecological Model, Life Course Perspective, Fundamental Cause Theory, National Institutes of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Model) to explore key factors (e.g., social, environment, economic, and biologic) influencing the health of individuals and populations across multiple levels (e.g., social, neighborhood, community, and policy). Students will identify, measure, and analyze these factors and levels, integrating them into a research proposal for their final project. Through a combination of theoretical grounding and practical application, students will gain the skills to develop and critique research proposals that investigate the multiple, complex, and intersecting factors that influence health outcomes across multiple levels.
