This course will explore the pivotal contributions of women directors in the global film industry, analyzing their unique artistic vision, narrative strategies, and the social and cultural contexts in which they work. Through a selection of films spanning multiple decades and genres, students will engage with both canonical and lesser-known works by female filmmakers. The course will also critically examine the challenges women face in the film industry, including issues of representation, gendered aesthetics, and systemic barriers to access and recognition. In addition to screenings and readings, students will engage in discussions, research projects, and analytical essays, deepening their understanding of women’s roles in shaping the cinematic landscape.
