Art and beauty shape how we experience the world and express ourselves. This course explores key questions in the philosophy of aesthetics from the historical to the contemporary. What makes something beautiful? What distinguishes good art from bad, and why? How are art and beauty related? What should we do about art that is morally objectionable? In addressing these and related questions, we will discuss topics like art criticism, aesthetic experience, and the impact of beauty on our moral and spiritual formation.
