Geriatric Pharmacy

Catalog description

This course builds on concepts and topics from required coursework related to the care of the elderly patient. Expert guest lecturers, a broad variety of topics, and active learning techniques such as small group discussion, case evaluations, and simulation will be utilized to enhance the learning experience. The course will address general principles of aging and geriatric assessment skills, pharmacotherapy of selected disease states and syndromes common in the senior population, as well as other pertinent issues related to geriatric care. Additionally, students will complete a project in which course content and skills will be applied to patients in the community. Prerequisite: PHAR 6530 .
