Catalog description

This course provides the early childhood education candidate with an opportunity to relate theory to practice in two early childhood settings throughout the course of the semester including a placement in an infant or toddler classroom and a placement in a preschool or kindergarten classroom. Students will apply developmentally appropriate best practices for instructional planning, assessment, and implementation strategies. Students will differentiate play-based learning for diverse children in all areas of development, form family partnerships, collaborate with an educational team, and will demonstrate professionalism as they complete pre-student teaching requirements. The pre-student teaching experience in both placements includes a period of reflective and collaborative observation, the development of a context for learning, mentorship through co-teaching, and culminates with a cycle of unit planning, instruction, assessment, feedback, and revision.
