Catalog description

Medical Law Ethics presents legal and ethical guidelines and requirements for health care providers in the workplace. The course will discuss basic legal and ethical concepts for providing patient-centered care, promote the understanding of the impact of laws and ethics on clinical practice, explore desired professional and personal attributes for health care providers, examine job readiness, credentialing, and workplace dynamics, and promote cultural competency. It identifies the roles and functions of the interprofessional team and discusses risk management issues as they relate to health care clinical practice. Students will learn to identify and respond to issues of confidentiality, perform within legal and ethical boundaries, establish and maintain the medical record, and document appropriately.
