Fundamentals in Social Work and Human Services

Catalog description

This course provides the knowledge and skills that are the foundation for working in the Social Work and Human Services field. It covers ethics, working with diverse populations, client observation, data gathering, bio-psycho-social assessment, person-centered/individualized treatment planning, case management/service coordination, crisis intervention, and documentation. The Twelve Core Functions of an addictions counselor are also interwoven throughout the course. Services that promote self-determination and utilization of community supports are emphasized. This course integrates classroom learning with practicum objectives. This course must be completed with a "C" or higher.
