Catalog description

Introduction to Mass Communication provides a history of mass media and its influence on human communication and societal change. Students will become better consumers of news and other mass media through the study of the history, roles, and impact of mass media in American society. Students will objectively apply mass communication theories in order to understand behavior. Principle ethical, policy, and legal questions confronting reporters and media are reviewed. Students are introduced to new writing, advertising, and public relations techniques.
