Catalog description

Provides a foundation regarding documentation requirements for electronic health record (EHR) compliance as required by licensing, accrediting, and/or regulatory agencies. This course enhances students’ skills in medical data collection, quality assessment, and medical coding integrity. Students review health care data sets, classification systems such as ICD-10-CM and current procedural terminology (CPT), HIPAA standards (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and the evolution of health information technology (HIT). Students also discuss how effective documentation can enhance medical decision-making and improve the revenue cycle leading to accurate reimbursement.
