Catalog description

This course introduces students to the history of diverse global performance traditions and how they connect to cultural expression, political activism, modes of community dialogue, and anti-colonial movements. Students will explore the historical development of theatre from around the globe, examining formative texts and movements including rituals, ceremonies, and contemporary modes of expression. Through critical discussions and interdisciplinary case studies, students will examine how performance shapes and reflects sociopolitical contexts across global cultures.
