Catalog description

This course provides students with foundational tools for analyzing a wide range of texts with a focus on practical application and production. In addition to dramatic and theatrical scripts, students will learn how to 'read' anthropological, media, digital, and other forms of performance. Emphasizing clarity and accessibility, students will explore both traditional and contemporary methods of analysis, including visualization, structuralism, imagery, and somatic responses for use in performance. Students will learn to transform their interpretations into performance concepts, projects, or event-based explorations. By combining theoretical inquiry with hands-on analysis, students will develop a shared vocabulary for collaboration among actors, designers, and playwrights, fostering a cohesive creative process.
