Race, Ethnicity, and Racism

This course explores how race, ethnicity, and racism shape life in the U.S. and around the world. We'll examine the origins of racial classification and explore the implications of race as a social construct. This course centers on psychological and social impacts of racial categories and their intersection with gender, class, language, body ability or culture. We will investigate differences between race and ethnicity and analyze representations of race in the arts and popular culture. We focus not only on how racism operates but how artists, activists, and everyday people challenged and reimagined these ideas through creativity, courage, and collective action.
