Catalog description

This course requires students to work with an existing or develop a new solo or collaborative music project. The goal is to create a professionally marketable performing and recording entity. With coaching and supervision by faculty and guest producers, artists, and engineers, the artists/groups will create and refine a 3-5 song set of material, which they will both perform live in a class showcase and create a fully-produced, polished studio recording, suitable for commercial release. Recordings may include self-production and collaboration with advanced audio/studio recording students and teams. Artists/band members will be expected to contribute to their project's creative and business activities, including identity/persona/image formation, and songwriting and repertoire selection. Projects invite collaboration on promotional, and overall artist-development materials with students and teams from across the college, including Music Business, Fashion, Design, and Visual Arts. The class closely models experiences found in the professional space, and takes the student outside of their comfort zone in preparing them for the challenges of the music industry.
