Catalog description

This course explores creative concepts and processes used in making dances for live performance and/or other mediums. Students will create their own dance studies in response to a variety of assigned exercises. Topics will include concepts such as space, time, shape, energy and dynamics, and processes for the invention, manipulation and structuring of movement materials. Improvisation and other embodied processes will be employed to explore movement ideas that will be shaped into choreography through a process of revision. Students will engage in critiques of their own and others' work and are expected to work rigorously and imaginatively to expand in new directions.
