Catalog description

In this course, students will study and practice the craft of writing short form screenplays for film and television. The course emphasizes storytelling economy, visual language, and character development within the concise format of the short form. Students will study the unique structural and narrative demands of short-form storytelling by analyzing short film screenplays and viewing short films and television projects. The course features focused exercises in idea development, script writing, giving and receiving notes, and revision, culminating in the writing and polishing of one or more completed short screenplays.
