U.S. Women’s Movements: A History

Catalog description

The course provides an overview of the history of U.S. women’s movements and the origins of feminism by examining “waves” of feminism from 1848 to the present day as well as related movements and opposition to women’s rights. Topics include abolitionism, temperance, suffrage, first through fourth-wave feminism, and peace movements as well as the rise of antifeminism and postfeminism. The course emphasizes the ways in which women’s movements varied by social location, particularly by race, class, gender, region, sexual orientation, and religion. Cross-listed as HIST 377W .
